And Just Like That, Summer’s Over!

How did that happen? June was just a couple of weeks ago, wasn’t it?

Apparently not.

School is back in session, and, after a couple of days of groaning and moaning, I’m excited to be back and ready to embark upon year two of OPERATION LEADERSHIP LIBRARY!

The space is getting more and more lovely, as the old and dusty books are being replaced by new and exciting titles. There are sections now! Fiction and non-fiction, of course, but also Biographies and Memoirs, Fantasy, Dystopia, and even Sports! (I’m working on an Animals section, for our many dog and cat lovers, but there are only four books in it thus far. It’s a bit sad.)

I’m excited to be open for more business hours this year. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, students can come in during lunch, and Mondays they can also come in after school. Last week, I had three lunchtime visits. Yesterday, though, I had EIGHT STUDENTS IN ONE LUNCH HOUR! I was so excited, I might have scared them off!

Things are picking up at the LHS library, folks. You should come visit!

Here are a couple of books I read this summer that I highly recommend:

This is a gorgeous story of a mixed-race girl – half Black, half Danish – who loses her family in a horrible tragedy. She is taken in by her grandmother, where she is forced to choose between her Black and her Danish background.

Another really good one:

how it went down

A 16 year old boy is murdered on the street, in front of plenty of witnesses. Told from multiple perspectives, the story delves into what happens to an entire community when one of their own is killed.

So many good books! Do you have any good reading recommendations? Please let us know!

Stay tuned for more tales from The Leadership Library!

Great post, great books. I’ll read them after I finish Plainsong.
